After the negotiations held between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment of Spain and the Taiwanese authorities of the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the aforementioned Spanish Ministry has announced the opening of the Taiwanese market to Spanish pork and pig meat products.
The agreement is far-reaching, because it will allow the exportation of fresh meat and offal, as well as of all kinds of pig meat products.
The negotiations process implied an in situ inspection visit to Spanish establishments by the BAPHIQ and the FDA, with the aim of checking if they fulfilled the veterinary and public health requirements regarding the European and Taiwanese laws and regulations. As a result of this visit, 51 Spanish establishments have been approved and will be able to start exporting to Taiwan.
For the exportation to Taiwan, all the establishments in the food chain will have to be authorised, and so, the authorised butchering rooms and meat industries will have to be supplied by abattoirs also included in the list.
