The Spanish pork and pork products exports have reached a new historic record: 1.03 million tonnes (25% more than in the same period in 2015) and an invoicing of €2,125 million, according to the data of DATACOMEX, produced by the White Pig Interprofessional Association (Interprofesional del Porcino de Capa Blanca Español, INTERPORC).
Exports to China have grown by 151%, going from 85,000 tonnes in this same period in 2015 to more than 215,000 tonnes, becoming, for the first time, the first market in terms of volume, beating France (160,000 tonnes). Behind them we have Italy (84,000 tonnes), Portugal (65,000 tonnes), Japan (49,000 tonnes), Germany (35,500 tonnes), South Korea (34,000 tonnes), UK (31,500 tonnes), Poland (34,600 tonnes) and Hong Kong (32,200 tonnes).
Regarding invoicing, we must highlight the strong growth of China, with purchases for €343 million (+167%), rising from the fifth to the second place, with only France, that exceeded €359 million, beating it. After them come Japan (€169 million, +20%), Italy (€149 million), Portugal (€145 million) and Germany (€118 million).
Regarding the kinds of products, the exports of fresh, refrigerated and frozen meat have increased, in the first semester of 2016, by 26.5%, exceeding 754,000 tonnes. Pig offal are the product with a higher percent growth in terms of exported volume (+32.8%), reaching 149,000 tonnes and €162 million due to the good pace of sales in Asian countries such as China, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Japan or Vietnam. They are followed, in terms of exported volume, by pork cured sausages (33,500 tonnes), bacon (33,400 tonnes), cured hams and forelegs (22,800 tonnes), melted lard (17,700 tonnes), processed and canned products (13,300 tonnes), cooked hams and forelegs (3,257 tonnes), salted bacon (2,576 tonnes) and melted fat (647 tonnes).
On the other hand, the exports of live animals have reached 70,184 tonnes, with the sales focused in the EU countries, specially in Portugal (52,800 tonnes), Italy (8,900 tonnes) and Germany (8,250 tonnes).
