In just the first two months of this year, Spain exported 26,048 tonnes of pork products to the Philippines worth 41.18 million euros, the equivalent of 41.80% of the value of all exports to the Philippines in 2020, when a record figure of 98.50 million euros was reached.
In 2019, with a record value of €97 million, Spain became the Philippines' largest supplier of pork and pork products, increasing its leading position in 2020 by reaching a market share of 30% of the total pork and pork offal imports according to figures from the Philippine Livestock Bureau, well ahead of figures from Canada (18%), the United States (17%), France (12%) and the Netherlands (10%).
It should be noted that the Philippine swine inventory continues to decline as African Swine Fever (ASF) spreads in the country. According to estimates by the Philippine Statistics Authority, the swine inventory as of January 1, 2021 would have declined by 24% from the 2019 census (the year ASF was first reported in the country), standing at 9.72 million head, down from 12.7 million head in 2018 and 2019.
