Sri Lanka reports first outbreaks of ASF in the country

Three outbreaks on farms have affected a total of 1701 susceptible animals.

Sri Lanka has reported the first occurrence of African swine fever (ASF) in the country to the World Organisation for Animal Health. The first outbreaks were confirmed on October 25, 2024 in Bollaththa, Ganemulla on a farm with 564 domestic pigs, in Madampe on a farm with 855 pigs, and in Ja - ela on a farm with 282 pigs. The source of the infection was cited as fomites and swill feeding.
