The economic crisis, the deceleration of the activity, the closing of plants and the increase in unemployment have affected the consumption negatively, according to Mr. Francisco Turra, CEO of the ABPA. Also, during the first six months of 2016, the animal protein producers and exporters have seen how maize has reached high prices.
In this context, the ABPA foresees a decrease in the expected Brazilian pig production growth, that was expected to reach 3.76 million tonnes. The current forecasts show a production of 3.64 million tonnes, the same volume as in 2015.
On the other hand, the pork exports seem to give a break to this situation. The new ABPA's forecasts expect the volume of pork exported in 2016 to exceed by 28% that of 2015.
