During the Council Meeting Agriculture and Fisheries, Poland briefed the Council on the difficult situation of its pigmeat sector as a result of new outbreaks of African swine fever in Polish holdings. It also requested to use all possible forms of support from the EU budget, including support from market, from rural development and from veterinary resources, in order to limit the effects of the situation and to prevent its further deterioration.

Several delegations expressed concerns on the spreading of African swine fever and supported the Polish requests for support measures. The Commission showed openness to these request and restated its commitment to finding solutions.
