After the appearance of a PRRS case in the Canton of Lucerne in early March 2014, the veterinary services inspected the pig farms with which there had been contact. Last 25th March the virus was detected in 15 animals on a farm with fattening pigs in which pigs from the affected farm in Lucerne had been introduced. The farm, located in Altdorf (Canton of Uri), had 900 susceptible animals.

Although the animals showed no symptoms, the farm has been considered contaminated, in accordance with the epidemic disease Ordinance. The veterinary services have ordered the immediate slaughter of all the animals on the farm.
