According to the information provided by the Ministry of Agriculture of Spain, during the 85th General Session of the World Assembly of Delegates of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) held in Paris last week, the Centre de Recerca en Sanitat Animal (CReSA, Animal Health Research Centre) was appointed as a WOAH’s Reference Laboratory for classical swine fever and as a WOAH’s Collaborating Centre for the research and control of swine emerging and re-emerging diseases in Europe.
Likewise, during the 85th meeting, Spain participated in the Mediterranean Animal Health Network (REMESA) meeting, where the current situation of the foot-and-mouth disease in the north of Africa has been reviewed, something that is of great interest for the Mediterranean countries, and specially for Spain because of the commercial ties with this region.
Spain participates as a member of this intergovernmental organisation in charge of animal health in the world since its creation in 1924.
