The unprecedented spread of African swine fever (ASF) worldwide requires global action and even more effective collaboration and communication between all relevant stakeholders in the agricultural, and environmental side.
The future of global pork production and therefore food security is under the threat of this devastating disease. In this context, a high-level international conference "The Future of global pork production under the threat of African swine fever" will be organised by the European Commission in Berlin (Germany) on 17 January 2020, on the opening day of the 85th International Green Week.
The aim of the event will be to foster coordinated global actions to reduce the impact of ASF to the pork production and international trade. Topics include ASF in specific countries, challenges to controlling ASF, the role of hunters, and the impact of ASF on the global meat market. Speakers include Dr. Monique Eloit, Director General, World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE); and Qu Dongyu, Director-General, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
