With the confirmation of three outbreaks of classical swine fever in the municipality of São José do Divino in the north of the state, the Secretariat for Technical Assistance and Agricultural Defense (Sada), through the Piauí State Agricultural Defense Agency (Adapi), sent a team of inspectors and veterinarians to the property. The aim is to adopt the measures recommended in the Contingency Plan for the disease and in the legislation that deals with animal health defense. Sada is preparing a vaccination plan against the disease in the state.
Among the measures adopted by Adapi in these cases are the interdiction of the property, the sanitary sacrifice of the animals, and destruction in an appropriate environment.
The farmer must report any cases of an animal showing any suspicion of the disease, such as pig mortality, fever (huddled animals), conjunctivitis, diarrhea, or vomiting, to Adapi. In addition, farmers should only buy animals from sources known to have an Animal Transit Guide (GTA) and not buy animals from fairs that are not controlled by the Agricultural Defense Agency.
