In order to control the spread of African swine fever (ASF) in the European Union, the European Commission has just published the COMMISSION IMPLEMENTING DECISION (EU) 2018/834 by which all Member States shall prohibit the dispatch of live feral pigs to other Member States and to third countries.

The Decision will also prohibit the dispatch of live feral pigs from the affected areas of Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland to non affected areas in the territory of the same Member State. These countries will ensure that no consignments of fresh meat of feral pigs, meat preparations and meat products consisting of or containing such meat from theses affected regions are dispatched to other Member States or to other areas in the territory of the same Member State.
