Over nine months of 2010, Ukraine imported 268,000 tons of meat and by-products, 17% less against the same period of 2009, while export of these products increased by 57% and made up over 37,000 tons, First Deputy Head of the State Customs Service Oleksandr Dorokhovskyi said.

He noted that reduction of import was observed over the first four months, but starting from May a trend was observed toward its increase. At the same time, in July and August, the volumes of imported meat products exceeded monthly volumes of the previous month. According to his information, average cost of one ton of imported meat and by-products this year is 7% down against the previous year. The first Deputy Head of the State Customs Service also informed that supply of meat and by-products to Ukraine are carried out primarily from the USA (one third of total import), Poland (21%), Brazil (12%), and Germany (11%). At the same time, he specified that geography of meat imports actually has not changed against the previous year.
