In 2019, industrial production of chilled and frozen meat reached 1.8 million tonnes. This is 2.7% more than the year prior. These results were announced by analysts of the association 'Pig Breeders of Ukraine' with reference to data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
In 2019, beef production fell 12.3%, totaling 62,200 tons. Poultry and pork production, on the contrary, increased: up 6.9% (to 1.07 million t) and 4.8% (to 281,700 t), respectively.
The output of chilled and frozen pork increased by 4.8% in 2019 against the previous year, to 281,700 tons. The increase was due to an almost 25% increase in the production of hams, blades and their cuts as compared to the previous year, as well as other chilled pork parts which were up by one-third. This offset a 2.4% reduction in chilled pork carcass production. In addition, there was an increase in frozen pork production during the year, and at the end of 2019 meat processing plants froze 35% more pork than a year earlier: 20,800 tonnes versus 15,400 tonnes, respectively. In this regard, the share of frozen products in the industrial production of pigs increased to 7.4% (+1.7% for the year) according to analysts from 'Pig Breeders of Ukraine'.
