Denmark: Uncastrated male pigs can be slaughtered

For the past six months, it has been possible to increase the production of uncastrated male pigs. Several slaughterhouses have opened up for producers to deliver uncastrated males.

The farms that sign a male piglet contract with the slaughterhouse can deliver male piglets and thus can stop castrating. The slaughterhouses have opened for an increased supply of intact male pigs.

The advantage of not castrating is better performance (feed efficiency and daily gain). However, boar taint in the meat is a risk factor associated with the production of intact male pigs.
