Despite total Income from Farming (TIFF) in the UK fell by nearly 7 per cent in 2009, according to the latest official estimates, the value of United Kingdom pig production increased 17 percent to £1 billion, the highest value seen since 1997.

Defra has also published a separate set of figures forecasting Farm Business Income by sector in England for the year up to the end of February 2010. Based on different calculations, these forecast increases in income for pig and poultry producers, LFA and lowland grazing livestock and mixed farms, reflecting firmer prices for finished and store livestock combined with lower input costs.
