Cost savings for pork processors exporting to the USA are on the cards following an agreement with USDA regarding trichinella testing.

Finished pigs from controlled housing destined to be exported to the US frozen, no longer need to be tested for trichinella. Finished pigs from ‘uncontrolled’ housing, together with all breeding boars and sows still need to be tested.
