Following its withdrawal from the EU last February, the United Kingdom is now listed in EU statistics as a destination for European exports .
With regard to EU pork export data for the first quarter of this year, the United Kingdom was the second leading destination, with a total of 170,697 t, representing 12.2% of the total quota and exceeding Japan (101,780 t, 7.3%).
It is worth noting that if the data is compared for the shipments made by EU countries to the United Kingdom for previous years, they have decreased (272,709 t and 260,939 t for Jan-March 2019 and 2018, respectively).
Exports to the principal destination, China, continue to increase. Between January and March, the EU sent a total of 756,021 t of pork to China, more than half of total exports and an increase of 75.5% over the same period last year.
On the other hand exports to the other major destinations have decreased compared to the same period in 2019 (-15% to Japan, -39% to Korea, -26% to Hong Kong, -50% to the Philippines).
