The Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the Department of Agriculture of US published, last 23rd April, its weekly report on the situation of the porcine epidemic diarrhoea (PEDv) and the swine deltacoronavirus (SDCv).

According to these data, in the case of the PEDv and up to this date, samples from animals from 15,863 farms have been analysed, and 6,019 farms have been found to be positive.

We simplify the explanation showing the number of farms, although the report showed the accessions to the laboratory. In general, a laboratory accession is a set of samples received at the laboratory in which the samples were collected at a single premise on a single day. Therefore, each laboratory accession represents a swine herd.

There is a total of 29 states in which positive biological samples have been detected. In Virginia only environmental (but not biological) positive samples have been detected.

With respect to the SDCv, of the 638 tested farms, 87 were positive. There is a total of 12 states with positive biological samples, whilst in the case of the state of Oklahoma only positive environmental (but not biological) samples have been detected.

Next we show the graphs corresponding to the number of weekly accessions to the laboratory: the analysed and the positive ones since the beginning of the epidemic in the case of the biological and environmental samples. We must say that in the case of the environmental samples, the feed samples are not included.
