The objective of the United States' new Swine Health Improvement Plan (SHIP) is to develop an ASF and CSF-Monitored Certification Program to protect international trade in the event of outbreaks of African swine fever or classical swine fever in the country, safeguarding the health status of participating farm sites, supply chains, states, and regions that are outside of the foreign animal disease control areas.

The basis of the pilot program is biosecurity, traceability, and disease surveillance. US SHIP ASF-CSF Monitored certification aims to demonstrate freedom of the disease to facilitate continued trade within the U.S. and to expedite resumption of international trade in the case of foreign animal disease outbreaks.
