On February 19, 2025, the European Feed Manufacturers' Federation (FEFAC) published the updated version of the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) for feed intended for food-producing animals on its website. This document sets out the methodology and standards for calculating the environmental footprint of compound feed.
The update is mainly technical in nature and does not introduce significant changes to the methodology. The updated PEFCR Feed will also be available on the European Commission’s Environmental Footprint Methods webpage and will remain valid until December 31, 2025. By then, greater clarity is expected regarding the timeline for a full and more in-depth review of the document.
During the update process, FEFAC initiated an inventory of potential improvements and remains open to receiving suggestions from experts in the coming years. According to FEFAC President Pedro Cordero, this update reinforces the federation's commitment to communicating the environmental performance of compound feed production, together with the newly approved Green Feed Labelling Code and the GFLI database.
