According to the last data published by the National Meat Institute (INAC) of Uruguay, the number of livestock slaughtered at the Uruguayan authorised abattoirs during the first trimester of 2017 were 606, 657 cattle (+13% with respect to the same period in 2016); 221,839 ovines (+28%) and 34,885 pigs (-15%).
The exports of meat, offal, meat products and by-products amounted USD447 million during the first three months of 2017. The income obtained with beef represented 83% of the total shipments of the meat sector, lamb represented 4%, and offal 6%. China was the main destination, with USD169 million (38% of the total exported products), followed by the EU and the NAFTA, with 21% and 13%, respectively.
