According to data published in the Informe de Consumos de Carne 2015 by the National Meat Institute of Uruguay, total meat consumption in 2015 was very similar to the previous year, reaching a total figure of 98.7 kg per capita per year (+ 0.1%), against 98.6 kg registered in 2014.
With regard to beef consumption, a slight decrease (−1%) was recorded, closing the year with 58.6 kg per inhabitant per year. Consumption of poultry meat figures were very similar to the previous year's (+ 0.3%), 20.4 kg per inhabitant per year. In contrast, consumption of pork was higher than the previous year, reaching the figure of 16.9 kg per capita per year (+ 1.1%). Sheep meat consumption showed a decrease, reaching 3.8 kg per capita per year (−0.3%.)
The report also highlights the increase recorded in ten years in total meat consumption in the domestic market, that has increased by 14.6 kg per inhabitant per year since 2006. The meat that showed the greatest variation was pork, with an increase of 7.9 kg per capita per year, followed by beef, which grew by 6.4 kg per inhabitant per year.
