US-Mexico agri-food trade saw growth in 2022

Mexico's agri-food trade balance with the United States saw a surplus of US$15.266 billion dollars, the highest in five years, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In 2022, agri-food trade between Mexico and the United States totaled 73.137 billion USD, which represented an increase of 8.467 billion USD, 13% more compared to the previous year (64.67 billion USD).

The federal agency noted that Mexico's agri-food trade balance with the United States closed last year with a surplus of 15.266 billion USD, 18% higher than that recorded in 2021 and the highest in five years.

According to data from the US Census Bureau, as of December 2022, Mexican exports totaled a record 44.202 billion USD, which implied an increase of 14% with respect to the close of 2021, and imports totaled 28.935 billion USD.

Thus, over the last four years, agrifood trade between Mexico and the United States increased from 50.877 billion USD in 2019 to 73.137 billion in 2022.
