On July 30, the first shipment of U.S. chilled pork entered Cartagena, Colombia. The shipment, which consisted of 24,500 kilos of boneless sirloin, will be used in the production of sausages. This successful outcome is a direct result of many years of negotiation under the enhanced relations of the United States – Colombia Free Trade Agreement and is part of a larger effort by the U.S. pork industry to pursue worldwide market opportunities. U.S. industry projects increased exports to potentially grow to $50 million a year.
