USA - Michigan House passes Prop 2-like legislation

The Michigan House of Representatives has passed legislation that's essentially identical to the ballot initiative that was adopted by California voters last year -- known as "Prop 2" -- that requires egg-laying hens, sows and veal calves to have space sufficient to lie down, stand up, turn around and extend their limbs.

The Michigan House of Representatives has passed legislation that's essentially identical to the ballot initiative that was adopted by California voters last year -- known as "Prop 2" -- that requires egg-laying hens, sows and veal calves to have space sufficient to lie down, stand up, turn around and extend their limbs.

The measure, adopted on an 87-20 vote, must be approved by the Michigan Senate and, if approved there, signed by Gov. Jennifer M. Granholm.
