Domestic pork prices in Vietnam have increased since June of 2019; the strongest increase being from late October to the first 3 weeks of December 2019. The fourth week of December finally saw a downward trend.

Vietnam’s total pig census for December 2019 was down 25.5% over the same period in 2018. Slaughter for 2019 is estimated to reach 3,289.7 thousand tons, down 13.8% from 2018 (the fourth quarter is estimated at 731 thousand tons, down 26.3%)

Pork consumption is expected to increase in January with the celebration of the new year; however, with high prices, consumption is still expected to be down 5-10% from 2018.
