Vietnam imports thousands of pigs from Thailand in restocking efforts following ASF

Over the next four years, the industry is expected to import over 100,000 breeding pigs to repopulate the country's pig herd following the ASF outbreaks.

Vietnam has already imported 250 breeding animals from Thailand and is encouraging businesses to import 20,000 pigs this year to help restock herds across the country following outbreaks of African swine fever.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Phung Duc Tien, said businesses had registered to import more than 110,000 pigs to ensure sufficient stocks from 2020-24.
