According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country has had over 660 outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) since the beginning of the year in 44 provinces and cities, forcing over 42,400 animals to be culled in provinces including Bac Kan, Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Hoa Binh, Son La, Quang Nam, and Long An. The number of outbreaks is rising and the risk of ASF spreading is very high. ASF can affect the food supply, consumer price index, and environment.

On July 14, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang signed Directive No. 21/CT-TTg of the Prime Minister requiring ministries, branches, and localities to implement strict measures to prevent and control ASF. It is necessary to proactively organize the drastic, synchronous, and effective implementation of disease prevention and control measures under the direction of the Secretariat, the National Assembly, the Government, the Prime Minister, and the guidance of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to:

  • Completely handle outbreaks
  • Build disease-free livestock chains and areas
  • Strictly handle cases of trading diseased pig products

Relevant ministries, branches, and members of the National Steering Committee for the ASF epidemic prevention and control proactively direct specialized authorities to coordinate the implementation of drastic and effective measures to prevent and control epidemics.
