Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tong Xuan Chinh, Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock Production, said that as of August 2022, the total pig herd in the country was about 28.7 million heads. The country's live pork output in the first 8 months is estimated at 2.94 million tons. It is expected that from now until the end of 2022, the output of live pigs for slaughter is estimated at 350,000 tons/month.
According to the plan, in 2022 the livestock industry will grow in livestock production value by about 5-6% compared to 2021 with an estimated meat output of 6.98 million tons, of which pork will reach over 4.3 million tons.
In 2023, the livestock industry is expected to continue to increase in production value by 5.5-6.0% compared to 2022. The total output of live meat of all kinds is forecast to reach about 7-7.5 million tons.
According to the Department of Livestock Production, from 2015 to 2020, the price of feed ingredients for domestic animals had been relatively stable. However, since October 2020 the price has increased continuously. March 2022 saw the highest price increase for animal feed materials when the price of corn and corn residues increased by 80-95% compared to 2019 and soybean meal increased by about 71%, while supplementary feed increased by 46-50%. The price of finished animal feed increased by 33-40%.
