Vietnam: still recovering pig census after ASF

The country's pig census still down 23%, but pork output expected to increase this year.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development expects an increase in pork output of 8.8% compared to 2019.

On March 2, 2020, the total number of pigs in the country reached 24 million, equal to 77% of the total pigs before the African swine fever epidemic (about 31 million head in December 2018).

As of the end of February, imports of pork and pork products reached 13,816 tons, accounting for 21% of total meat imports, up 150% over the same period in 2019, mainly from Canada (accounting for 33%), Germany (25%), Brazil (16%), Poland (16%), the United States (8%).
