Federal Minister of Food and Agriculture Julia Klöckner and her Chinese counterpart Tang Renjian met via videoconference to discuss current issues in agricultural relations. During the bilateral meeting, they discussed, among other things, the effects of African swine fever (ASF) on trade. The German Minister explained the current situation in Germany, emphasizing that the domestic pig population remains free of ASF and that the outbreak is limited locally in two federal states and is exclusively in wild boar.

Both ministers agreed to hold concrete ASF meetings at the expert level in both countries as soon as possible. According to the German Federal Minister, the objective is clear: "We want an agreement to resume trade. That is why the agreement on intensive negotiations in a German-Chinese expert group is an important step."

At the same time, other still open issues on access to other markets, such as apples, barley, wheat, and animal products, such as beef, were discussed. The development of rural areas and the continuation of joint cooperation projects were also discussed.
