The WOAH's commission evaluated on site, for a week, activities such as the controls carried out by the ICA when pigs are transported, the epidemiologic surveillance, the animal identification systems, the vaccination programmes, the producing farms and the commercialisation, among other aspects of pig production, oriented towards the eradication of Classical Swine Fever (CSF) in Colombia, and the strengthening of the opening of the international markets for this important sector of the economy.

For his part, Mr. Cristobal Zepeda, expert of the WOAH in CSF and leader of the mission highlighted the work of the ICA. “We feel that Colombia has carried out a great effort in the control and eradication of CSF. We could see the great progress, that we will transmit to the WOAH's Scientific Commission, that will determine the acknowledgement of the health status is this area”.

Mr. Luis Humberto Martínez Lacouture, general manager of the ICA, pointed out that “The ICA and Porkcolombia are working together towards the eradication of CSF, so we ratify our total commitment with the producers. This WOAH commission came to evaluate the earnest and professional work that we are carrying out for the national pig production, so from this region of Colombia we can access the pig (and its products) international trade”.

The Agriculture and Livestock Institute of Colombia (ICA) runs the CSF National Eradication Programme, directed towards the declaration of areas free of the disease, the definition of the control areas and the eradication processes.
