Atelectasis - Atlas of swine pathology
Where: respiratory system, lungs
Possible causes: Enzootic Pneumonia (EP)Influenza
The cranioventral distribution of the reddish and collapsed areas of pulmonary parenchyma (atelectasis) is very suggestive of swine influenza virus infection. In some cases, secondary bacterial bronchopneumonia may obscure the macroscopic lesions of influenza. The differential diagnosis for this lesion is Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae infection (enzootic pneumonia).
