Diarrhea on a grow-finish farm with pigs four months of age. Acute diarrhea has started. The animals are lethargic; we found vomiting in some pens, and 50% of the pigs have watery diarrhea and are very thin. An sour smell, characteristic of some diarrhea processes, is detected in the barn.
There has been no change in feed or in the water source that could explain the appearance of diarrhea caused by feed toxins or water contamination.
Since we work with a disease surveillance system in the area, we check to see if there has been suspected cases of swine epidemic diarrhea and indeed, there are more cases in nearby farms.
