These inflammatory changes in the lungs are caused by the Gram-negative bacteria, Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae. The lungs are congested with the severe swelling, connective tissue is thickened. Some lung areas can be easily distinguished from the aerial, but congested zones - with the hepatization, more intense dark red color and a stout, airless consistency. As a rule, there is fibrinous pleurisy, covered with a yellow or blood-colored fibrinous exudate.
