These lesions correspond to intrahepatic congenital cysts and are thought to derive from embryonic bile ducts. From a public health point of view, this lesion must be differentiated from hydatid cysts, produced by the cestode Echinococcus granulosus. The fertile hydatid cyst have a "brood capsule", which contain protoscolices, and "hydatid sand" in the fluid that corresponds to free brood capsules and protoscolices.
