Lordosis and/or kyphosis in pigs: also called "humpy-back", it is sporadically observed in growing pigs. As its name suggests, it is characterized by a thoracic and/or lumbar spinal deformity. In terms of pathomorphology, it can be compared to kyphosis in humans. In pigs, this condition may decrease the carcass value, as it may make boning difficult. Today the causes are still unknown. There are three possible hypotheses: nutritional factors, intrauterine viral infection, and hereditary predisposition.
