The image corresponds to the large colon of 8 weeks old pig with mucohaemorrhagic diarrhoea and enlargement of the Peyer patches.
There was high morbidity and mortality in these pigs.
Affected pigs had clinical signs of dehydration and weight loss.
In this case laboratorial results proved positive to Brachyspira hyodysenteriae by RT-PCR with a CT of 23.3.
Results came back negative to Lawsonia intracellularis by RT-PCR and Salmonellosis by bacteriological culture.
Treatment with tiamulin in-feed and injectable and the addition of zinc chelate in the water helped to reduce the incidence of the infection.
