Multifocal red dots in kidney - Atlas of swine pathology

Animals with PDNS have exudative glomerulonephritis and vasculitis in the kidney. This lesion can be observed macroscopically as multifocal red dots. The pathogenesis of this syndrome is associated with immune complexes formation and its deposition on the basal membranes of glomeruli and vascular walls. In some cases necrotizing and crusty dermatitis can be found in these animals. Several infectious etiologies have been related to PDNS, particularly PCV2 and some strains of Pasteurella multocida. Diferential diagnoses include Classical swine fever, African swine fever, Erysipelas and Actinobacillus suis
