This image corresponds to a set of lungs with purple-black hard areas of inflammation, necrosis and haemorrhage with fibrin exudate on the surface of the pleura in a 10 weeks old pig.
The unit had clinical signs of coughing and sudden deaths of pigs in good body condition.
Post-mortem examination of a number of pigs showed the same clinical signs of necrotising pneumonia and fibrinopurulent exudate of the peritoneal and thoracic cavities.
Graesserella parasuis was detected by RT-PCR and bacteriology of the lungs.
