Necrotizing pleuroneumonia - Atlas of swine pathology
Where: respiratory system, lungs
Possible causes: Actinobacillosis AppGlässer diseasePasteurellosis
Necrotizing pleuroneumonia was detected during a necropsy. The causative agent in this case was Actinobacillus suis. Actinobacillosis usually only affects piglets, but older pigs could be affected if PRRS is active in the herd. In this unit PRRS and PCV-2 were uncontrolled which allowed Actinobacillus suis to cause opportunistic damage.
