Purulent osteitis was located in a vertebral body and in the intervertebral disc, which were partially destroyed. The area of bone destruction contained viscous, yellow pus.
The most likely cause of this lesion found during the post-mortem slaughterhouse inspection is a nonspecific haematogenous infections associated with onphalophlebitis, tail trauma resulting from tail biting and castration wound infections.
