Thickening of the costochondral junction in growing pigs is highly suggestive of rickets. This finding is usually called “rachitic rosary”. Rickets is usually associated with Vitamin D and Phosphorous deficiency.
Fibrous osteodystrophy, instead, usually produces swelling of the maxilla, bones are easy bended and it is caused by an imbalance of Ca/P ratio in diet.
