Serous tuberculosis in fattening pig - Atlas of swine pathology
Where: respiratory system
Possible causes: Tuberculosis
Different sized yellowish-white lesions are seen attached to the inner side of the rib of a fattening pig. These are tuberculous granulomas on the serosal surface. Pigs are susceptible to infection by Mycobacterium bovis, M. tuberculosis and M. avium complex. Lesions can reach these locations by hematogenic or lymphogenic retrograde dissemination.
A differential diagnosis must be made with abscesses or fibrous adhesions due to chronic pleuritis.
