Productive sows
This term encompasses all the sows present in the farm since the moment that they are producing: this is, from the moment in which they are mated for the first time until they are slaughtered. This means that it does not include the replacement gilts that are waiting to be mated for the first time. We must try to make that the number of productive sows is the maximum at all moments (bearing in mind the maximum capacity of our farm), because in this way, the fixed costs are shared between the maximum number of sows. So, in a farm with a capacity for 300 sows, we will have to attain 300 productive sows at all moments.
