An international study has quantified and characterised the groups of acquired resistance genes (resistomes) in nine European countries. There was a significant effect of the country on the resistomes. The level of total acquired AMR was related to the use of specific antimicrobials in each country's livestock, and countries with comparable usage patterns had similar resistomes.
