Canada - Canadian Swine Health Board introduces biosecurity users guide

The first draft of the Canadian Swine Health Board's new Biosecurity Users Guide was introduced as part of Swine Health Forum 2010 which wrapped up October 26 in Quebec City. The document was developed based on information gathered through a national biosecurity benchmarking survey and is intended to assist producers in reducing the risks of disease transmission.

USA - USDA proposes to amend Livestock Exportation Regulations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is proposing to amend the livestock exportation regulations to eliminate pre-export tuberculosis and brucellosis testing for goats and breeding swine if the receiving country does not require such testing.

Cleaning and disinfection failures – why do they happen?

Any failure in a cleaning and disinfection programme costs money. This comes from the costs of the programme, the loss of its potential benefits and very probably the costs of disease the failure has allowed to occur. It is also very disappointing for the management and staff of the farm who have done the hard work, and the veterinarian who is trying to ensure healthy efficient production.
