China this afternoon gave notice that it is ready to accept imports of U.S. pork, following negotiations between Chinese and U.S. officials in March that led to an agreement in which China pledged to reopen its markets to U.S. pork. U.S. pork produced on or after May 1 can now be exported to China.

U.S. beef and pork muscle cut exports performed well in March, concluding the first quarter of 2010 with increasing momentum.
