China focuses on raising veterinary standards

Several top veterinary schools and research institutes in the United States and the United Kingdom have joined Chinese government departments to form an organisation to advance veterinary education and practices in the country, according to an official source in China. The China Veterinary Collaboration will work closely with local organisations, academia and industry leaders to bring the country's veterinary standards up to world levels.

According to the information that came from the Territorial Administration of the Rosselkhoznadzor for the Krasnodarskiy Krai and the Republic of Adygeya, the ASF positive result was obtained in the Kropotkinskaya regional veterinary laboratory in the course of examination of a blood serum samples taken from diseased pigs kept in a personal subsidiary plot in the settlement Staroscherbinovskaya, the Scherbinovskiy Rayon, the Krasnnodarskiy Krai. The diagnosis was confirmed by the GSI ARRIVV&M on December 9, 2010.

Role of IFN-α during the acute stage of a swine influenza virus infection

To investigate the role of IFN-α in influenza, the swine IFN-α neutralizing monoclonal antibody (Ab) K9 was applied in a swine model of influenza A virus infection. First, the optimal dose and route for administration of the IFN-α neutralizing Abs was determined. Based on those results, the effect of the Abs on a swine influenza virus infection was investigated.

A cattle farm in Yecheon, North Gyeongsang Province, was found to have been infected with the deadly foot-and-mouth disease [FMD] Monday [6 Dec 2010], the 1st outbreak outside Andong, where the disease was 1st reported early last week.
