Offal imports grew from 174,000 tonnes in the first six months of 2009 to 286,000 tonnes in the same period of 2010. Pork imports rose from 65,700 tonnes to 88,100 tonnes in the same period.

USA - USDA proposes to amend Livestock Exportation Regulations

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) is proposing to amend the livestock exportation regulations to eliminate pre-export tuberculosis and brucellosis testing for goats and breeding swine if the receiving country does not require such testing.

Czech Republic - Self-sufficiency in pork to fall below 50%

The Czech Republic last year imported 177,000 tonnes of pork, or about 40 percent of its consumption, but this year its self-sufficency will drop below 50 pct unless conditions for domestic farmers are at least partially evened up with the EU, Agriculture Chamber head Jan Veleba said.

World Pork Outlook

According to FAPRI 2010 U.S. and World Agricultural Outlook, recovering from a 12 per cent drop in 2009, pork trade grows by 2.8 per cent (122,000 metric tons; mt) annually in the next decade, reaching 5.52 mmt in 2019. Pork production increases in the next decade at a rate of 1.9 per cent (1.85 mmt), reaching 115.46 mmt in 2019.

European Union - FVO final report in relation to the import of pig meat from Brazil

The objective of the mission was the evaluation of the food safety and public health controls in place as well as certification procedures in relation to potential exports of pig meat from Brazil to the European Union. This potential export was evaluated in the State of Santa Catarina (SC), which since 2007 has the World Animal Health Organisation (OIE) status "free from foot and mouth disease (FMD) without vaccination".
